Menakar Kelayakan Naskah
Naskah itu oksigennya penerbit. Bahkan, naskah yang punya potensi best-seller, ibarat oksigen sekaligus darah bagi penerbit. Penerbit tidak bisa berlagak tidak butuh penulis karena dari penulislah produksi naskah mengalir. Namun, di satu sisi penerbit memang kerap memilah-milah penulis, mana yang bisa diajak bekerja sama atau memiliki talenta untuk menjadi penulis produktif sekaligus berkualitas dan mana yang memang tidak harus ditindak lanjuti.
Salah satu kemampuan untuk menakar kekuatan sebuah naskah menurut saya adalah intuisi—semacam indera keenam. Staf editor di sebuah penerbit harus melihat yang tidak bisa dilihat oleh orang lain. Untuk itu, sang editor harus kaya input, punya nalar yang baik, serta memang mengenal karakter tulisan dengan baik. Di benak editor ketika ia membaca naskah kali pertama (first reading) harus sudah terstimulus context (pengemasan) naskah nantinya. Selain itu, editor juga harus bisa membayangkan siapa yang akan menjadi pembaca sasaran utama naskah tersebut. Dari situ akan muncul semangat membuat naskah itu benar-benar menjadi powerful.
